Balmain Seniors Rack up another title

Congratulations once again to my boys for an outstanding season culminating in a second Premiership for the B Grade Seniors in the past three years.

All season our team had a desire to get results, and we finished as Minor Premiers after the regular rounds.  We had a nail biter of a game in the Semi against the Drummoyne Rats, which we won by 6 runs (turning around the defeat at the hands of the Rats in the corresponding Semi last year).

In the final we were playing against the Regals that finished 3rd after the regular rounds and we were 1-1 going into the decider.  Fortunately I managed to win my fourth toss of the season from 13 games, and I elected to bat.

The Regals have a very good bowling attack, and we had to keep our heads down to keep on track.  We lost a few wickets early to be 3-58 after 26 overs, then Noah (34) & Emerson (64) then built a 92 run partnership to get us to 4-150.  There were consistent runs scored by the middle order, however about 13 overs before the close of play on Day 1 we were 8-194, needing more runs to look a chance.  Richard Minter & Abdul Amiri built a great partnership to have us at 8-219 at stumps after we'd batted for 83 overs (14 more than we had batted in any innings all season).

Early on day 2, the Regals needed to roll us early, and we needed more runs to be safe. Rich (37), Abdul (23) & Sean Barry (14 n.o.) then put on another 59 runs for us to finish on 278 after batting for 1 ball less than 100 overs - a staggering 31 overs more than any innings for the entire season.

The score proved to be too much for the Regals, as it trashed any game plan they had, then with tight opening bowling from Blake Hamilton and Adam Power, combined with brilliant fielding from Peter Hall, Matt Barlow, Abdul Amiri and Ric Diamonte the wickets tumbled regularly.  Blake finished with 3-26, Sam Goldsworthy took the leather with Abdul Amiri and Sam finished with 4-13 and Abdul 1-11.

We bowled our opponents out for 84 runs, dismissing them for nearly 200 runs less than our score in the Grand Final!  It was an outstanding display of cricket by all players on the park.  I am very proud to be a Tiger and of the all the achievements by each and every one of the boys that played for us throughout the season.
